Engineering best practice covers a wide range of topics. It may be advice on what to consider in detailed stress analysis, or on how to look after external visitors to your factory or site. Engineering is a very complex industry – by it’s very nature it deals with new designs and installations, suited to the end-user or the environment. Depending on the industry every project you work on may be bespoke, or you may manufacture millions of identical widgets every week. Because of this a lot of engineering companies will find a way of working which works best for them and their customers. There is no hard and fast rule for the majority of aspects of an engineer’s role.
Good engineers will look at how they work, and how their company works, and improve where they can. Engineering best practice is not developed in isolation, however. Like all engineering, it works best when good practice elsewhere is sought out, investigated, and incorporated where it will make a positive difference.
These pages show our experiences in engineering in a variety of industries and in a variety of roles. From aerospace to renewable energy, and from educational settings to oil rigs, we have a breadth of experience. With this experience we try to show what engineering best practice looks like, and give tips on how to improve as an engineer.
