True to their word, Iron Gate have released Hearth and Home exactly as predicted. It’s a little early to tell, but fan feedback seems to be good so far, with everything promised and more in the update.
The Valheim Hearth and Home Update is one of four major patches in Iron Gate’s original Roadmap, published shortly after Valheim was released on Steam Early Access. The initial ambitions were found to be a little too ambitious over the summer, and it was ramped back. This update focuses on quality of life updates, based around the building and food mechanics. It adds new content and improves the existing mechanics. Leading up to the release a series of spotlight videos were released by Iron Gate which detail a lot of these major changes.
Having received the update, it contains a few more surprise items! Fans have been asking for a way of dealing with garbage items which cannot be destroyed, so there is now a way of eliminating these which is quite funky. You can also share your map with your fellow Vikings, and you can find seeds with which to replant trees. The Lox is now useful to tame as well.
Some smaller improvements include not being able to hurt your tame animals, and also having a special knife with which to butcher your tame animals! There are numerous new foods and building objects, and even a new type of cooking device – the oven.
